vintagewitch: (cute queen of the north)
This weekend was amazing for my nerdy self. It was very busy - I don't necessarily feel recharged in the same way that I perhaps would have if I'd rested more, but I'm so glad that my weekend turned out this way.

First off, while Saturday was a work day for me, it was not busy. I was exhausted, and felt sick for a lot of the day. (Side note: I have a friend who thinks that my chronic pain might be related to a nerve problem because of the waves of exhaustion I go through. Those are also very hard to diagnose, so I'm working with the diagnosis I have for now.) I was working so hard last week and Saturday felt like it needed to just be a rest day. But I had way too much going on, and I had to be at Magus. So I went. Unfortunately, no one stopped for a reading but frankly I'm ok with that. I have a year-ahead reading to do for a client that I was able to pick away at. Those are ... really GD extensive.

BUT! Saturday night I went to see Lore live and it was FANTASTIC! Aaron Mahnke has a very dry sense of humor that comes through every once in a while on the podcast, but the live show was definitely more humor than in his recorded shows. Chad Lawson, his composer friend, was also there playing piano through the show - a live scoring, as well as live storytelling. It was truly incredible. Mahnke told 4 stories, with some chatter in between, and then did a final, unrecorded episode of Lore. He even threw in a story about St. Paul, which was fantastic, and local connection aside, one of my favorites of the evening. It was an absolutely delicious evening.

Then, yesterday I went to the Ren Fest for the first time in probably four years? I had never prioritized spending the money there before, or hadn't had the people to go with, but this year we got our shit together and went. I went with Max, Chris, and Anais, and it was beyond incredible. I just love wandering around and watching the folk crafts demonstrations, the glassblowing, the pottery, looking at all the artisans. We did less music watching this year than in the past, which I think I'd like to change for next year. Max and I both agreed that we wanted to start working on a costume.

I think I want to be a traveling Viking-era woman, who carries things to try to sell, and different maps and things that she would barter. This is not historically accurate, but I'm a rune reader, so obviously I'd love to bring more of my ancestral heritage to it. I dunno I'm still developing it, but I think I'll start with making my own base costume, and then next year I can add to my "tinker's belt."

This year I bought a fox tail. I've wanted one since I was little, and I overheard this particular booth owner talking about how they only get their fox tails from wildlife sanctuaries where the animals die of old age. So I was like "YES. This is the booth to buy one." I love fur, but I feel so mixed about owning it. Fox and mink farms are horrible, and degrading to the animals. Meanwhile faux fur is largely made of plastics - and the process of making it produces a lot of plastic beads, which end up choking the environment. So IDK. But now I have a fox tail, and it makes me happy and brings me much joy.

Ren Fest also reminded me of how much I love Game of Thrones, and so I ordered the "Storm of Swords" through the library. It's the next book I haven't read (I've finished the TV show), so that'll be a nice addition to my fall.

After I finish my work for the day, I plan on sitting down to finish "Left Hand of Darkness." It's soooooo good. Some lovely reading time is exactly what I need to decompress.
