Of course, Judaism and Christianity are really closely linked (in his lifetime Jesus pretty much only preached to Jews - it was after his death that Christianity and Judaism separated). I could have probably made that point more explicit/clear!
Friend was talking about early Christianity as it spread to Europeans, which would have been after the split between Judaism and Christianity as religions, as Roman and Greek followers turned to Christianity. This is a point where the demographics of Jewish followers of Jesus attended philosophical meetings separate from Christian churches/meetings, and there was a theological/practical divide.
(My friend has a much more firm grasp on this particular history, I admit.)
