LJ/DW was always both social and fandom for me, which I think is interesting! Yes, it's got an anonymous feel to it, but I've always had people I at least sort of knew IRL on my friends list.
The more I think about it the more I realize that the natural progression of facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. is not connection - it's monetization. Which has *never* been the thing with Dreamwidth.
